Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting

Course Entry

This course is for Deaf professionals with fluency in British Sign Language (BSL) and one other signed language. This includes Irish Sign Language (ISL) or American Sign Language (ASL).

As this is an assessment only programme, your interpreting skills should be at the appropriate level before joining the course. This will be determined by the course Assessor and Internal Verifier at the Induction Weekend.

Induction Weekend 2nd/3rd April 2011 in Central London

In the group Induction, you will have the opportunity to:

  • Learn more about the procedures of the NVQ programme
  • Be clear about the roles and responsibilities of the NVQ team 
  • Be aware of the policies set out by Signature and Actual Signs e.g. appeals 
  • Understand the NVQ standards that you must meet
  • Plan and create different types of evidence 
  • Become familiar with the paperwork involved in the portfolio

Tutorials

Following the two induction days, you will continue the process of collecting interpreting evidence. This will be compiled in a portfolio provided by Actual Signs. Evidence will be reviewed with your assessor in two webcam tutorials and a live observation.

In your tutorials your assessor will:

  • Help you prepare your assessment plan
  • Analyse and give feedback on your evidence
  • Offer guidance about suitability of evidence and ways to improve
  • Provide advice and support with collecting evidence if any problems arise
  • Help to prepare the portfolio for final submission

Portfolio Completion Weekend 8th/9th October 2011 in Central London

Candidates will be expected to submit a completed portfolio of evidence at the final classroom based weekend and ensure that all paperwork has been completed.

CertificationOn completion of a successful portfolio of evidence, the Signature Level 6 NVQ Diploma in Sign Language Interpreting will be awarded.

Signature Fees

£1,250 + VAT. Can be paid in six monthly instalments of £250.

£75 per unit inc. VAT for five units INTA1, INTB1, INTC1, INTD1 and INTE1 or INTG.
