This workshop will improve students' understanding and expand upon lexicon and coping strategies in the medical field. The workshop will focus on both productive and receptive BSL skills within this specialised area.

Actual Signs provides a safe, practical signing environment for BSL learning and discussion.

This workshop will help you to:

  • Expand your knowledge and skills of BSL medical lexicon
  • Use different terminology e.g. jargon, abbreviation of words
  • NMF / facial expressions
  • How to request new BSL medical signs and how to create new signs
  • How to ask for clarification from the medical professionals
  • Sign correctly to "patients" in a meaningful way
  • Understand the implications for BSL when signing medical terms
  • Understand the sensitivity of BSL signs that may affect Deaf BSL users

Learn with a native BSL user to improve the fluency of your BSL and develop the standard of your signing for a medical context.

Following this workshop, you will receive 30 minutes of webcam access to our trainer for further clarification and support.
