BSL Training

Whether you are a beginner to BSL, want to improve your signing or wish to develop fluency at an advanced level, we can help! We have a team of deaf and hearing trainers and pride ourselves on offering a high level of training and support to all our students.

• Levels 1 and 2 in BSL
  
  Level 1 and Level 2 courses in BSL help you to develop the language and learn a little about Deaf culture at the same time. Both courses are awarded by SQA and use continuous assessment so there is no exam at the end of the course. 

• Levels 3 and 6 in BSL*
  
  Programmes at Level 3 and 6 focus on receptive and productive BSL skill components. You will start by learning more about the linguistics of BSL, polishing up your signing with valuable feedback from our trainers and becoming familiar with the NVQ structure and assessment process. After this, you will move on to Part 2 of the course where you will be supported by your Actual Signs Assessor to collect a portfolio of evidence of your BSL skills with regular 1:1 tutorials to ensure you are on target.
  

*Please note that on 1st September 2010, Signature replaced the Level 4 NVQ in BSL with the Level 6 NVQ Certificate in BSL so only pre-existing Level 4 candidates will submit for this and all new registrations will be for the Level 6 NVQ Certificate in BSL. Both the Level 4 and Level 6 NVQ are recognised equally as being the next step for those with competence in BSL at Level 3.
